Using words to describe music is a difficult task. Even more so when said music is engaging, moving and simply fantastic. Such is the case with the debut album from Luke Wood, The Law and The Prophets.
It is clear that Luke has spent his time in the secret place with God, studying the scriptures and discovering divine inspiration. The creativity within each song blended with the deep, rich lyrics create a union that could only come from the place of prayer.
Luke is clearly a theologian. He is also an outstanding songwriter. In The Law and The Prophets he has taken deep theology and puts a splash to it that will delight the listener. The song Firstborn From the Dead is full of truth about Jesus Christ written in a way that catches your attention and makes you believe the anthem which repeats "You're alive and You're coming soon. No matter what they say, the promise of Your coming is near, is here."
Far beyond just good lyrics, the music to this album is simply outstanding. A great blend of guitars, piano and drums creates music beyond what you would expect. The progression of dynamics from soft, engaging times up to strong energetic moments is intriguing and exciting. Luke's creativity and diverse musical styles transcend the boundaries of any one specific genre. There is a great variety of styles and musical textures on this album. There are hints of folk, rock, alt-country and some very beautiful ballads. This CD will hold your interest and usher you into worship.
